Optimization of the available simulator for S2: 

  • Development of a L1B forward simulator including methane plumes.

  • Simulated Hyper- and multispectral L1B data sets.

3.1 Hyperspectral retrieval:

  • Reduction of false positives in ∆XCH4 maps through the use of extra spectral and/or temporal information, or through post-processing.

3.2 Multispectral retrieval: 

  • Investigation of S2 methane detection limits for a range of surface conditions.

  • Evaluating the potential and limitations of combined time series of S2 and Landsat data.

Demonstration cases:

  • Reprocessing of available, well-characterized hyperspectral and multispectral data sets for the evaluation of improved retrieval methods.

  • Large-scale data analysis efforts in regions in Algeria and China where strong emissions are being detected.
